About John

"The things that kept me hopeful and alive were the broken dreams that somehow never left me."

- JOHN AMEDRO

A Career...

While an architectural student at the University of Miami, I stumbled upon their theater building one night and walked in to see “A Midsummer Night’s Dream”.

I was completely immersed in the set design as I settled in a seat surrounded by foliage and vines hanging overhead. This was life changing and within a year I transferred schools and was auditioning for theater roles. This led me to New York City and I began chasing the dream. There were the many, many” black box” experiences, the years of studying with Greg Zittel and my participation in various Theater groups where we bonded together to raise funding for the projects that interested us.

There was the time spent as an intern for the Broadway producer Rick Hobard and the time spent with director Alan Schneider and the lyricist Joe Stein as they built their Broadway bound production of Before the Dawn. Then there was my stint on All My Children and the start of a collaboration with a husband and wife team; we developed several projects that were performed first as one act plays, then as full length productions and both eventually became films.

I have maintained a constant involvement in independent films and in developing projects of my own. Most recently, I produced and performed in W.B.Yeates’ “Purgatory” and wrote, produced, co-directed my short film “BLACKBIRD. A dream resurrected”. I never feel more connected and alive as when I’m involved in telling stories through my work.

A Life...

My life today probably started with James Cagney. As a 8-9 year old, I saw Public Enemy , and it resonated deeply. It was the power of film; telling a story that reached the viewer and extracted an emotional response. Other impactful films followed: Romeo and Juliet, To Kill a Mockingbird, Long Day’s
Journey into Night, Network, Klute ..and the list goes on. These films put me on the path toward wanting to be a part of the storytelling community.
